Peg–DWL–A Different Finish

I posted about this a couple of weeks ago on my other blog, Pieces on My Mind (see side-bar), and just realized I hadn’t shared this finish here.  After Down Winterberry Lane flimsy was done, I first added it to the pile waiting for quilting.  But I really wanted to use it for Christmas this year and wondered how I could accomplish that.  It’s so big, quilting on my domestic machine just seemed too HUGE!  And with a sore shoulder right now, wrestling with that…..well, it just wasn’t going to happen!  Then I came up with this:

As you can see – it’s in the bathroom – makes a great outer curtain – and this past few days, it’s become a conversation piece!

Simply lined, with tabs added at the top, it’s just the right size for the space – and it can’t be missed!

Happy solutions!                  Blessings, Peg

Peg–DWL–Borders

Well, I just realized I forgot to share with you all the finished top!

A couple of posts ago, I showed the inner borders, but commented that I wasn’t as happy with the width of the print.  Well, on a trip to Washington a couple of weeks ago, I stopped at a quilt shop in Linden and picked up ALL that they had left of the print.  It was just barely enough!

So I unpicked – cut, pieced together, added a bit on each end – resewed the borders – added the pieced outer border……………….and voila!

I’m much, much happier with the print border, and the overall look now.

It’s added to the pile of tops that need quilting – not sure what I’ll do with it yet.

And Christmas is coming – fast!  Oh, so fast!  it actually snowed here last night – it’s so pretty out there!  Too bad there’s almost no chance of it staying around for another 37 days…. Oh, well, this makes for a perfect day to sew – and I’ll be joining the Sew-In.

Have a good day, all                       Blessings, Peg

Peg–DWL–Panels

Well, the panels…..they created the biggest challenge so far.  Because I wash all my fabrics…………..they weren’t square!!          Nor were they the same size as they started – out by 1/2-3/4 inch in one or both directions.

So getting borders on them, and having it all land square and the right size for assembling the quilt…………..  Need I say more?

The first one was the hardest

But then I got into a bit of a rhythm, and the rest went fairly easily.

Last Monday, I shared on Design Wall Monday over at my own blog, Pieces on My Mind, all the elements on the wall together – ready for final assembling.  I hope to have the final assembled quilt top within a couple of days.

This really has gone much more quickly than I thought it would, and I’m really happy with it so far.  I can’t wait until Jo gets home and can get started – she always does such unique things with her quilts!  I understand that a couple of her friends are also going to do this quilt, hopefully she’ll be able to share pictures as they make progress as well!

Happy on-line quilt group!                 Blessings, Peg

Peg–DWL–Inner Borders

Well, the elements got all pieced together, and the sections set in place, then it was time to start borders.  This went fairly well – I did make a mistake in cutting the one print, it’s not as wide as the pattern called for, but I think I wouldn’t have got the length if I’d cut the width, from the piece of fabric that I had.

Anyway, here it is:

The size of my room requires my design wall to be partially behind the bed, but it works.    I think this is looking quite good!

Next step – pieced outer border.

Peg–DWL–Element # 4

What’s Christmas without candy canes, so of course there are candy cane stripes for this quilt.

013

More HST – but much easier to assemble into strips than into square blocks!

Does it make you want to go out and start your Christmas candy shopping!

Mmmmmm……               Blessings, Peg

Peg–DWL–Element # 3

The third element for this fabulous quilt – presents!  Don’t you just love getting presents all wrapped up and mysterious!

Each of these is a different shape and size, so meant there was no cutting of strips and then cross-cutting to get the pieces of the block, then chain-stitching to create the block…………nope, cut each piece separately!

012

But they do look like there should be something really good inside those boxes!

Peg–DWL–Element # 2

The second element for Down Winterberry Lane is ornaments.  Three of them the same size/shape, and one a little different.  It took me 2 sewing sessions to get these done.  But done they are!

This was kind of fun, easy directions – as long as I followed them!  It was when I stepped out on my own path that I had to do some un-picking on the green and red one.  But I think they look alright!

Nice to have directions!                 Blessings, Peg
